Welcome to Claire's PAW Tracker project!
- Breathing rate tracking is critical for pets with cardiac issues. Claire's PAW tracker provides tools to track, visualize, and analyze your pet's breathing rate trends over time. The FREE file download links are located below. The tables and graphs can be printed and provided to your veterinarian to aid with treatment.
- Anyone can use these free tools to monitor your pet as well! All you have to do is record date, time, breaths per minute. Collect the numbers and store them in your phone. Transfer the numbers to your computer and input to the Excel File or breathingdata.csv for Python.
- Breathing rate should be measured when your pet is asleep. Breathing rates over 40 per minute or significantly greater than normal can indicate immediate medical attention is required. We identified Claire needed medical attention on 9/16 using her PAW Tracker.
- Input Parameters: Date, Time, Breathing Rate Per Minute, Furosemide Dose, Vetmedin Dose, Enalapril Dose, and Sildenafil Dose.
- Claire has degenerative mitral valve disease (MVD), which is the most common dog heart disease, impacting over one million dogs (UF Small Animal Hospital). MVD is a common heart condition that impacts small and medium sized dogs.
- The python jupyter notebook includes outlier detection to flag breathing rates that are not statistically similar. This does not mean anything is wrong with your pet, however extra monitoring should be conducted. Also Oridinary Least Squares regression (OLS) is used to determine if there is a correlation between furosemide (diuretic) and breathing rate. Escalated breathing rates can indicate fluid in their lungs.
- Tables and Graphs can be found in the excel or python files. The CSV file contains the data that is loaded into python. If you are just using the excel file then the CSV or python files are not required.
